Earth Canvas, National Museum of Australia, Canberra
Alexander Boynes, Ros Atkins, Jenny Bell, Jo Davenport, Janet Laurence, Tony Nott, Idris Murphy and John Wolseley
26 August - 30 October 2022
Earth Canvas showcased works by leading contemporary artists, developed in response to regenerative farming on properties situated between the Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers in southern New South Wales. The exhibition explored the creative experiences of regenerative farmers and the artists who spent time with them, their engagement with the land and their vision for a healthier world.
The farmers profiled in Earth Canvas looked beyond limiting the impact of industrial agriculture on the landscape and instead engaged actively with their properties to rehabilitate the land and nurture healthy ecosystems.
Inspired by their immersive contact with farmers and landscapes, artists including Alexander Boynes, Ros Atkins, Jenny Bell, Jo Davenport, Janet Laurence, Idris Murphy, Tony Nott and John Wolseley revealed an appreciation for and understanding of the natural forces that sustain us.
Earth Canvas was developed by regional collaborative Earth Canvas: Art in Ag, curated by Albury Library Museum and supported by the National Museum of Australia. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program.
